Prospective Members FAQ's
Q. What's new with the M.J.P.A., Inc.?
A. Just for starters, this web site! This is the first overhaul and upgrade to
mjpa.org since 1999. Also, more time is being allocated at quarterly meetings for
education workshops to help our members improve their knowledge and skills.
Q. What type of training materials are available to members?
A. All members receive a Membership Manual, which contains a wealth of
information including documents describing the duties of a Justice, how to
complete a marriage license, sample ceremonies, billing and contract guidelines,
lists of publications and more. Many of these documents are or will be available
on our website. The website is a member’s single most important portal to all
information, in a dynamic fashion, related to training and keeping current with all
relevant matters.
Q. I'm a newly commissioned Justice of the Peace. Do you have a mentor program?
A. Currently there are over 20 members who have volunteered to act as mentors
for other Association members.
Q. I've been a Justice of the Peace for many years and never belonged to the
M.J.P.A., Inc. Why should I join now?
A. You have direct access to over 525 colleagues from whom you can get
referrals, learn and network and with whom you can share your ideas and make
referrals.
Q. I was a member before. Why should I rejoin?
A. Candidly, the Association has changed over the past several years. We use
today's technology for updating and upgrading the way we communicate with our
members. As an example, our members were among the first in the
Commonwealth to be notified that the Legislature increased the fees Justices are
allowed to charge to solemnize weddings. Our members were also influential
facilitating the passage of the legislation.
